Statistics is one of the department in Faculty of Mathematics and Sciences. The department was built in 1995 using Mathematics for its main curriculum on subjects such as Mathematics Projections, Statistics and Computer Sciences. In 2000, Diponegoro University submitted a proposal to open Statistics as a new bachelor degree study program. The permission to open was fully given with the letter of Direktorat Jendral Pendidikan Tinggi No. 920/D/T/2003, the statistics major was officially open as part of Faculty of Mathematics and Sciences. The letter was upgraded to No. 3260/D/T/2005 and later was upgraded again to Surat Ijin Perpanjangan Penyelenggaraan Program Studi No. 2647/D/T/K-N/2009. Currently Statistics Department is accredited as A by SK No. 3298/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/XII/2018.

Statistics has one laboratory to enhance the academic and research for lecturers and students. For bachelor degree, there are four concentration of study which are: Economics and Business, Industrial, Computer Sciences and Information System Management also Social and Governmental. Statistics has 19 lecturers with 6 people holding PhD degree and 13 others with Master degree with the qualification of  1 professor, 7 head of lecturers and one expert assistant.

The bachelor degree program for Statistics produce graduates who completed 144 credits distributed in 8 semesters. The study phase are divided into three phase which are evaluation phase 1, evaluation phase 2, and bachelor phase. Evaluation phase 1 is conducted in the third semester with the minimum credits of 35 and the minimum GPA of 2,25. Evaluation phase 2 is conducted in the fifth semester with the minimum credits of 85 and the minimum GPA of 2,25. The bachelor phase are can be completed up to fourteen semesters with total credits of 144 and minimum GPA of 2,00. Students will officially graduate after they finish all 144 credits and thesis with minimum GPA of 2,00 and without D grade.
