Thailand, 28\u201329 May 2026 \u2013 In an effort to increase academic capacity and expand international research networks, representatives of the Faculty of Science and Mathematics participated in the International Conference on Applied Statistics (ICAS) 2026 held in Thailand on 28\u201329 May 2026. This international conference brings together academics, researchers, students, and practitioners from various countries to discuss the latest developments in the fields of statistics, data science, artificial intelligence (AI), and its various applications in the world of research and industry.<\/p>\n
The activity was opened by organizers from Chulalongkorn Business School and the Thai Statistical Association. During the two days of implementation, participants gained various insights through keynote speaker sessions, invited speakers, research presentations, and scientific discussion forums that discussed strategic issues related to the development of applied statistics in the era of digital transformation.<\/p>\n
One of the main materials was delivered by Professor Xiaodan Fan who raised the theme of the use of AI in bioinformatics research. The session explained how artificial intelligence opens up new opportunities for statisticians to contribute to the increasingly complex analysis of biological data. In addition, Associate Professor Han-Ming Wu introduced an innovative method that integrates tabular data with deep learning technology based on Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), thereby improving data classification performance in various application fields.<\/p>\n
The conference also presented speakers from the industry sector who discussed the latest developments in AI technology. One of the topics that caught the attention of participants was the development of autonomous AI agents that are able to perform a series of tasks and decision-making independently to solve complex problems. The material provides an overview of the direction of the development of AI technology which is increasingly widespread and has the potential to be applied to various sectors.<\/p>\n
On the second day, participants gained insight into web-based statistical and data science learning innovations through the use of eStat, R, and Python platforms by Prof. Jung Jin Lee. In addition, digital transformation in the insurance industry through the application of InsurTech was also discussed by Dr. Chupun Gowanit. He conveyed the importance of developing AI that not only focuses on the accuracy of the model, but also pays attention to the aspects of ethics, transparency, and human values in its use. In the last session, Dr. Monchai Lertsutthiwong delivered with the topic “Beyond Accuracy: Aligning Statistical Objectives with human value-driven AI in Modern Finance and Healthcare.<\/p>\n
In addition to participating in the plenary session, participants also had the opportunity to attend various research presentations that featured the latest research results from international researchers. This activity is an effective means to exchange knowledge, expand research perspectives, and build academic networks with researchers from various institutions and countries.<\/p>\n
Participation in ICAS 2026 is expected to support the improvement of the quality of research and scientific development within the Faculty of Science and Mathematics. The various knowledge and experiences gained during the conference will be a valuable reference in the development of educational, research, and community service activities, while strengthening international collaboration in the fields of statistics and data science.<\/p>\n
