The Department of Statistics, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Diponegoro University, held the\u00a0<\/span>UNDIP Global Classroom (UGC) for the\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>Statistical Consulting<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0course\u00a0. This activity featured an international resource person,\u00a0<\/span>Dr. Resa Mae R. Sangco<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0from\u00a0<\/span>the Department of Mathematics & Natural Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, North Eastern Mindanao State University, Philippines<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0.<\/span><\/p>\n

The UGC activity was held in two online meetings via Zoom. The first meeting was held on\u00a0<\/span>Wednesday, April 15, 2026<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0, and the second meeting was held on\u00a0<\/span>Wednesday, April 22, 2026<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0, at\u00a0<\/span>3:00 PM WIB<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0. This activity is one of the efforts of the Statistics Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Diponegoro University (UNDIP), to provide international learning experiences for students through academic collaboration with lecturers from foreign universities.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the first meeting, Dr. Resa Mae R. Sangco presented material on the basic concepts\u00a0<\/span>of Statistical Consulting<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0. In her presentation, statistical consulting was explained as a collaborative problem-solving process, not just a data analysis activity. Statistical consulting plays a role in providing guidance and scientific considerations to clients, starting from problem formulation, data understanding, research design assessment, statistical method selection, analysis, and interpretation and communication of results.<\/span><\/p>\n

The material also emphasized the importance of involving statistical consultants from the early stages of research, particularly before data collection begins. This is crucial to ensure the research design, data types, variables, and analysis methods used align with the research objectives. Participants were also encouraged to understand examples of statistical consulting applications in various fields, such as marketing, science, education, health, industry, research institutions, and government agencies.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to delivering the material, students were also given a group assignment as part of their in-depth study. The assignment asked them to analyze a research scenario regarding the relationship between study habits, sleep time, social media use, and student academic achievement. Through this assignment, students were asked to formulate consultation questions, identify research objectives, determine data needs and variable types, propose an appropriate statistical approach, and identify potential problems in the research design or data.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the second meeting, students gave group presentations based on the assignments given in the first meeting. Each group presented the results of their analysis, including questions to be asked of the client, data collection requirements, suggested statistical approaches, and potential research challenges. This presentation session provided a platform for students to practice critical thinking skills, scientific communication skills, and the application of statistical consulting concepts to real-world situations.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Through this activity, students are expected to not only understand statistical consulting theory but also be able to apply it in the context of cross-disciplinary problem-solving.
