In order to improve data literacy and support the development of digital analysis skills among students, the Department of Statistics of Diponegoro University (UNDIP) held a Power BI training intended for all students from various universities in Semarang City. This activity is part of the Community Service program that is routinely carried out by the department.
This training lasted for one day and was attended by students from various majors. The material presented included an introduction to Business Intelligence concepts, data processing, creation of interactive dashboards, and visual analysis using Power BI – one of the data analytics software that is currently widely used in the industry.
The chief executive of the activity, Puspita Kartikasari, S.Si., M.Si., explained that this activity aims to provide practical skills that can be applied directly by students in the world of work and in research. “We see the importance of mastering data analysis tools such as Power BI, especially in the digital era that demands data-driven decision-making,” her said.
Through this activity, the Department of Statistics UNDIP also wants to take an active role in encouraging collaboration between universities and expanding the impact of statistical science in the community. In addition to the training session, participants also had the opportunity to discuss directly with lecturers and data practitioners, as well as obtain certificates as a form of recognition for the competencies that have been obtained.
One of the participants, Lyonel Oliver, a student from Bina Nusantara University Semarang, expressed his appreciation for this activity. “This training is very useful. In addition to learning to use Power BI, I also understood how to analyze and present data more professionally,” her said.
It is hoped that this activity can be the first step for students to be more data literate and able to compete in an increasingly digital-based world of work. The Department of Statistics UNDIP also plans to make this training a sustainable program on a wider scale in the future.
