The Department of Statistics of Diponegoro University again held the Undip Global Classroom (UGC) activity as part of efforts to strengthen the international academic atmosphere. On June 11, 2026, this guest lecture presented Dr. Anuraj Shankar from the Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford, UK, who gave online material on the Survival Analysis course.
In the lecture, Dr. Shankar presented the topic “Cox Proportional Hazards Regression”, an important method in survival analysis that is widely used in clinical and epidemiological research. The material is delivered systematically through six main parts, namely the basic concepts of survival analysis, application in clinical cases, management and interpretation of survival data, survival function estimation techniques with Kaplan-Meier, in-depth discussion of the Cox Proportional Hazards model, and model evaluation through diagnostics and interpretation of results.
Students gain a comprehensive understanding of how statistical methods can be used to identify risk factors and predict the timing of events in health research. The interactive discussions that took place enriched the participants’ insights, while showing the real relevance of survival analysis in answering the challenges of modern medical research.
This activity not only expands students’ knowledge, but also strengthens the UNDIP Statistics Department’s international academic network with world-leading institutions. Through direct interaction with experts from the University of Oxford, students have the opportunity to broaden their global perspective and increase their academic capacity in the field of applied statistics.
